Diamo i numeri!

La questione dei numeri più semplici in inglese è principalmente una questione di Pronunciation & Vocabulary e a questo riguardo si trova tutto quello che serve nel audio album di Ingliando:

Qui invece l’obiettivo è quello di stabilire alcune regole fondamentali per l’elaborazione dei numeri più grandi in inglese e di spiegare l’impostazione base che permette a chiunque di saper pronunciare un numero qualsiasi, anche il più grande!

Mission impossible? Vedremo…

Una delle caratteristiche fondamentali che differenzia l’inglese dall’italiano nel campo dei numeri è l’uso della punteggiatura che è esattamente l’inverso! Dove in italiano si dividono i numeri grandi con il punto, in inglese si dividono con la virgola, e dove in italiano si divide il numero intero dai decimali con la virgola, in inglese si dividono con il punto. Non entriamo qui nel merito della scelta del punteggiatura ma teniamo presente questa differenza fondamentale tra le due lingue.

L’altra cosa importantissima da ricordare con i numeri più grandi è che le centinaia si uniscono vocalmente alle decine (oppure direttamente alle unità in mancanza di decine) sempre con la congiunzione and.

Prima di passare alla pratica bisogna sottolineare che per domare i numeri in inglese bisogna sapere formulare un numero qualsiasi di TRE cifre alla perfezione e il gioco è fatto.

Vediamo qualche esempio:

• 167 = [one hundred and sixty-seven]
• 324 = [three hundred and twenty-four]
• 472 = [four hundred and seventy-two]
• 516 = [five hundred and sixteen]
• 693 = [six hundred and ninety-three]
• 808 = [eight hundred and eight]
