Il verbo to pay può essere utilizzato in diversi tipi di costruzione ma in fondo le varianti sono poche:

• to pay somebody ~ pagare qualcuno
• to pay something ~ pagare denaro oppure un conto, una bolletta, l’affitto ecc.
  
• to pay for somebody ~ pagare una quota per qualcuno (anche se stesso)
