The lie we live

La menzogna che viviamo

[ intermediate / advanced ]

Apart from being a useful listening exercise, this video is above all a personal condemnation, by the author Spencer Cathcart, of the lie that hides behind our civilisation. It is an invitation to each of us to find the strength to change within and thereby bring a collective change to our society. It is by no means an easy choice, but it is perhaps our only real hope if we want to avoid sinking into the abyss of self-destruction. You may not find yourself in total agreement with the author’s point of view, but there is no doubt that there are already many disturbing signs. The video has both Italian and English subtitles which you may find useful.

I agree! ”Stop waiting for change, and be the change you want to see!”

Hi Benedetta. Well, I think that’s really the message of this film. Of course it’s not always easy, but it’s the only way to go, I think. Who said that originally? I can’t remember. Was it Ghandi?

yes! Mahatma Gandhi! an excellent example of yesterday and today….
how could we disagree with Einstein, who told ” Gandhi’s views were the most enlightened of all the political men in his time”…
the only thing that we can add is just ”and in our time too!”

If only our leaders today were a little more enlightened instead of being totally egocentric!

N.B. “said” not “told” – “told” needs an object. 🙂

            😉 yesss it’s true!
”said” in general something…. and ”told” us something
            I often get confused :/

It’s an easy mistake to make. 🙂

Is this the Civilisation? That Civilisation that we’ve learned at school?

Well, it’s one person’s point of view. It may seem a little pessimistic, but I think the author is just trying to invite people to really think about the direction our civilisation has taken and ask themselves if there is not perhaps a btter way of moving forward.
