La traduzione, come metodo di esercizio nell’apprendimento di una lingua, farà sicuramente parte della vecchia scuola, però, inserita in un contesto più vario di apprendimento, soprattutto con feedback in tempo reale, può sempre essere un utile esercizio di allenamento.

Good evening prof. Can you tell me why “like” is not good? My version was: I would like not to have to talk about that….

Although your version is not strictly speaking “wrong” as such, Alberta, I think you’ll find that even in Italian the meaning changes a bit. With “like” you have: “Mi piacerebbe non doverne parlare”, which sounds a bit strange to my ears.
I guess the difference is quite subtle though. 🙂
