A family had twin boys who looked the same but were completely different. When one of them felt it was too hot, the other one felt it was too cold. When one said the TV was too loud, the other said the TV was too quiet. They were opposite in every way: one was an eternal optimist, the other was a total pessimist.

One year, on their birthday, their father decided to carry out an experiment. While the twins were at school, he filled the pessimist’s room with a wonderful selection of toys and games and filled the optimist’s room with horse manure.

In the afternoon, the father went to the pessimist’s room and found him crying loudly.

“Why are you crying?” the father asked.

“Because now all my friends will be jealous and because I’ll have to read all these instructions before I can play and because I’ll need lots of new batteries for all these electrical devices and because in the end all these toys will break and I’ll have to throw them all away,” answered the boy sadly.

When the father passed the optimist’s room, he found him dancing with joy in the middle of all the horse manure.

“What are you so happy about?” he asked.

The optimist replied, “Look at all this horse manure! There must be a pony in here somewhere!”
