On this day, the British ocean liner RMS Titanic, set out from Southampton to New York on her maiden and fateful voyage. Built in Belfast for the White Star Line, Titanic was the largest ship on the ocean with first-class accommodation that was designed to be the pinnacle of comfort and luxury. It included a gymnasium, swimming pool, smoking rooms, fine restaurants and cafes, a Victorian-style Turkish bath, and hundreds of opulent cabins. On board were some of the wealthiest people in the world, as well as hundreds of emigrants seeking a new life in the United States and Canada. At about 2 o’clock in the morning on 14th April, the Titanic struck an iceberg and the steel plates of the hull buckled and separated, allowing water to rush in. In less than three hours, the Titanic had sunk and about 1,500 lives had been lost.

Your comments are always very welcome.

A famous Italian song-writer and singer, Francesco De Gregori, has witten a song about the disaster: TITANIC. The singer does not mention the shipwreck, but, you, the listener, as you know what the fate of the liner was, are touched by the desires, hopes, wishes expressed by the various passengers who do not imagine what will happen in a few hours’ time. The word ICE, for instance, is repeated several times, so are the many premonitions of their impending fate

I’m not familiar with that one. I’ll have to look it up on YouTube and have a listen. Thanks. 🙂

Well, thank you for that, folks. I knew nothing about this second tragedy in 1915.
Can I offer some suggestions to improve your story slightly:
Three years after the Titanic sank, another terrible tragedy hit a passenger ship. On the 7th may 1915 a german U-20 submarine fired a torpedo at the “Lusitania” owned by the Cunard Line. The Lusitania was near the Irish coast and sank fast in just eighteen minutes: 1197 people died. A tragic fate joined the two ships because the twin ship of the Lusitania, the Carpathia, was the first to arrive on the scene when the Titanic sank.
