Sei in grado tu di rendere la frase di oggi in inglese?

La traduzione, come metodo di esercizio nell’apprendimento di una lingua, farà sicuramente parte della vecchia scuola, però, inserita in un contesto più vario di apprendimento, soprattutto con feedback in tempo reale, può sempre essere un utile esercizio di allenamento.

Consiglio una partecipazione attiva e visibile postando la tua versione tra i commenti in fondo a questa pagina. In questo modo riceverai un mio commento o suggerimento in tempo più o meno reale. Ma per chi non se la sente, si può semplicemente annotare la propria versione e controllarla attraverso i miei commenti lasciati per gli altri.

Ricorda l’importanza di immaginare un contesto reale nel quale la frase in questione avrebbe senso, prima di procedere con la traduzione.

    1. Very good, Dany. Here are a few things to consider:

      1. everything is worth➝ everything that is worth
      2. doing it ➝ doing (senza ‘it’)
      3. growing ➝ grow (meglio)

    1. A good effort, Renato, but there are a few things that need adjusting:

      1. all that’s worthy to do ➝ all/everything that is worth doing
      2. evenings ➝ the evenings (sono specifiche a quel momento nel tempo)
      3. has become ➝ have become (svista)
      4. boring like ➝ as boring as (comparativo di uguaglianza)

        1. So I can say “evenings are like watching the grass grow”, but I must say “evenings are as boring as watching the grass grow”, is it right?

            1. I think the point is that you are making a comparison: the evenings are boring in the same way that watching grass grow is boring. This kind of comparison which centres around an adjective, requires the “as + adjective + as” construction.

      either: “everything worth doing”
      or: “everything that is worth doing”

      “Everything that is worth doing” might sound a little more natural here, but “all” is also good.

      I would perhaps put the article before “evenings” – “the evenings” since they are specific to that moment in time.

      I see you preferred a different simile at the end, equally effective.

        actually I First used the expression “to Watch the grass grow”.then I thought there could be an idiomatic one so I checked and I found this One😁

    1. Hi there, once again, a good effort and comprehensible. Here is what I would change:

      1. is worth to do ➝ that is worth doing
      2. evenings ➝ the evenings (the article is not strictly necessary but sounds better)
      3. boring like watching ➝ as boring as watching (comparativo di uguaglianza)

    1. I wonder why you’ve changed to the past simple for “got boring”. I still see a strong connection with the present (finora).

      At the end you really need a “comparativo di uguaglianza” (similitudine).
