An American tourist from Texas was taking a taxi tour around the City of London.

As the taxi drove past Saint Paul’s Cathedral, the taxi driver gave the Texan a brief history of the building and explained that construction had started in 1675 and that it was completed in 1710.

Shoot!” exclaimed the Texan. “A little old church like that? In Houston we’d build a thing like that in less than a year.”

Tower Bridge was next on the route and once again the taxi driver gave a brief history of the bridge and explained that construction had started in 1886 and that it was completed in 1894.

Jeez, man!” exclaimed the Texan. “We put up a bigger bridge than that in Dallas and it only took six months.”

A little later, as they drove past the Houses of Parliament, the taxi driver remained silent.

“Whoa! What’s that building over there?” asked the Texan, pointing his finger in the direction of Big Ben.

“I’ve got no idea,” replied the taxi driver “It wasn’t there yesterday.”
