Esercizi di traduzione dall’italiano all’inglese
Le versioni corrette si trovano in fondo alle domande insieme alle tracce audio per allenarsi con l’intonazione e l’accento. Chiaramente, a volte, ci possono essere più di una versione corretta e in quel caso vengono fornite anche delle varianti. Ma se resta un dubbio, si può chiarire tutto utilizzando la sezione per i commenti in fondo alla pagina.
Per chi è già ben avviato al livello intermediate (B1/B2)
1) Scusami ma cerchi di attirare l’attenzione di chi?
2) Cos’è quel rumore strano? C’è qualcuno alla porta?
3) Chiamami a qualsiasi ora. Se non posso rispondere, ti richiamo.
4) Non bere quell’acqua. Non hai idea da quanto tempo è lì.
5) È ora di vacanza. La traduzione quotidiana di Ingliando sarà di ritorno a settembre. Buone vacanze!
6) Non riesco a credere quant’è difficile tornare al lavoro dopo una vacanza così bella!

Buongiorno professore, ho tradotto queste frasi, ma ho alcuni dubbi che riporto di seguito:

Non si dovrebbe mettere “anyone” o “anybody”?
5) È ora di vacanza. La traduzione quotidiana di Ingliando sarà di ritorno a settembre. Buone vacanze!

Quindi si usa il genitivo sassone anche con i siti web?

2) Normalmente si, nelle domande, ma quando chi fa la domanda è già abbastanza convinto che la risposta sarà affermativa, può fare la domanda con “some” (e i suoi composti) in modo da far capire la sua posizione riguarda la risposta. Non è la forma più comune per le domande e questa frase serve proprio come esempio.
5) Con un soggetto “personalizzabile” si può fare. Più che un “sito web” si tratta di un nome “Ingliando” che rappresenta una persona o delle persone. Un esempio simile potrebbe essere “the government’s decision…”
40) Non è sbagliato del tutto come idea. Però dovresti usare “yesterday’s” come pronome:
“…much better than yesterday’s.”
49) “Still” nelle frasi negative tende a guardare il future (continui a non…) mentre “yet” tende a guardare il passato (fino a questo momento non…) Qui vedrei più questa seconda interpretazione. Ma “still” (con molto enfasi) funzionerebbe bene se chi parla è piuttosto seccato!

44. È una costruzione un po’ “italiana” quella di cominciare con “It’s all morning…” Non so fino a che punto lo direbbe un’inglese. Poi il doppio gerundio no suona tanto bene, meglio “trying to speak”.
46. Va benissimo (ma “giving” scorre meglio).
47. “Actually” va benissimo. Eviterei il doppio “taste”. Potresti dire, “I’ll taste one to see what they’re like.”
50. Va benissimo.

Posso usare il present perfect continuous nella seconda parte, visto che sembra avere il senso di averlo cercato per un periodo di tempo ininterrotto e non ancora finito? quindi I’ve been looking for it everywhere…

Nel contesto che hai descritto la forma “continuous” andrebbe benissimo. Se invece chi parla ha rinunciato alla ricerca, andrebbe la forma “simple” ovviamente. “Search for” è una valida alternativa a “look for”.

26) La seconda parte della frase ‘are you thinking of writing to the manager? è necessario tradurla cosi oppure si può anche usare un più semplice ‘Do you think to write to the manager?’ grazie

Se usi “Do you think…” per presentare la frase, dovrai continuare con il futuro:
“Do you think (that) you’ll write to the manager?” (Pensi che scriverai…)
Ricordati che think non può essere seguito dall’infinito in inglese!

Genitivo sassone non funziona qui perchè non c’è un “possessore” (e non è un’eccezione). Bisogna usare “house” come aggettivo. Nella seconda parte è un comparativo di maggioranza quindi “ttoo” non ci sta ma “more” e “than”.

“It” può anche andare qui visto che non abbiamo un contesto preciso. Ma “enough” manca alla fine se vogliamo dare il senso dell’italiano.

“go into” non da l’idea di “riuscire”, invece “get into” si. Altriemnti ci vuole quella formula con “managed to”. “Could” al passato non fa capire se l’ha fatto o no – dice solo che era in grado di farlo.

“We want that…” non esiste in inglese.
83) It’s very windy right now and it seems it could rain.
In inglese quel “come se” ci vuole: “as if”. È molto comune dopo “look” e “seem” nel senso di sembrare.

Difficile! Non è sbagliata la tua versione, ma mette l’enfasi su come ha passato il tempo quando probabilmente qui ha già rinunciato a cercare e vuole solo comunicare il “fatto” che ha cercato ovunque. La forme “simple” mette l’enfasi sul fatto, la forma “continuous” mette l’enfasi su come ha passato il tempo.
100) Most of these houses were built a lot of time before we were born.
“A lot of time” in inglese viene usato solo per dire “una grande quantità di tempo” ma non per descrivere un “periodo” di tempo. Per esempio: “We’ve still got a lot of time.”
Sono delle spiegazioni stringate ovviamente, ma spero che aiutano un po’! 🙂
