Pseud’s Corner è una storica rubrica della rivista satirica e di attualità “Private Eye”, fondata a Londra nel 1961. La rubrica mette sotto i riflettori e deride le più pretenziose recensioni e descrizioni giornalistiche del momento.
Il prefisso pseudo- , in inglese come in italiano, si riferisce a qualcosa di falso, fittizio, e dà origine a numerosi termini come pseudonym, pseudoscientific, pseudobiographical, pseudointellectual e così via. Ma è proprio quest’ultimo aggettivo pseudointellectual, che in inglese è stata accorciato nel sostantivo pseud e cioè una persona che si finge intellettuale e/o acculturata.

How can we recognize the genuine from the pseudo? Is there a litmus test? This is the problem. And, what about Pirandello’s theory: One, None, Hundredthousands? Are there, really, only two certainties in life: death and the bills? It is a tricky task to separate the wheat from the chaff!
