La traduzione, come metodo di esercizio nell’apprendimento di una lingua, farà sicuramente parte della vecchia scuola, però, inserita in un contesto più vario di apprendimento, soprattutto con feedback in tempo reale, può sempre essere un utile esercizio di allenamento.

The second part is a duration form in the past and should be “we had been trying”.
Also, I would simply say ” away out of our dilemma” at the end.

The first part of your version is fine.
In the second part you need a past perfect continuous because the action is set in the past and not in the present (‘cercavamo’ e non ‘cerchiamo’). Also, you can’t use “figure out” in the sense of “cercare”. The correct formula here, using your choice, would be: “We had been looking for a solution to our dilemma for weeks.”

All good. If you use “solution”, then “to our dilemma” is fine, but if you use “way out” then you need “of”.

The only problem here, Luca, is your interpretation of “cercavamo” which does not lead up to the present but to a specific moment in the past. Your “duration form” is in a “present context” and needs to be in a “past” context. To do this you need a “past perfect continuous” and not a “present perfect continuous”.
