Buonasera Tony! Sono curioso di avere una tua opinione su questa mia considerazione: mi sto sforzando ormai da un bel pò, di entrare nella logica così vasta delle forme verbali inglesi e mi ponevo questa domanda, proprio alla ricerca di un possibile filo conduttore che desse la possibilità di orientarsi concettualmente in questa selva. Gli inglesi distinguono tra forme simple e forme continuous o progressive; è possibile dire che mentre le forme simple servono a descrivere delle azioni chiuse e definite o ripetute all’interno di un contesto temporale più o meno definito, quelle progressive sono, come dice anche la parola, usate per descrivere azioni più fluide, “in movimento”, che dal passato o nel futuro, in qualche modo, hanno sempre una qualche conseguenza nel presente. Questa mia esigenza deriva dal fatto che vedo questa forme verbali trattate sempre come se ognuna fosse un’entità a se stante con tutte le sue regole precise, che a volte, però, sono talmente simili (come secondo me nel caso del present perfect simple e nel present perfect continuous) che si fa fatica a capire quale sia quella corretta da usare soprattutto quando si traduce dall’italiano. Ti chiedo scusa per la prolissità e ti ringrazio.

Ciao Gaetano. È molto difficile risponderti in poche parole! Sul sito ho dedicato una sezione all’uso dei tempi dei verbi proprio per questo motivo. Con tutti i tempi ‘continuous’ in inglese, l’enfasi è fortemente sullo svolgersi dell’azione nel tempo, sottolineando il modo in cui è stato impiegato un trancio di tempo che esso sia passato, presente o futuro. La conseguenza nel presente che menzioni, secondo me, è solo vero quando si tratta del ‘present perfect’ e del ‘present perfect continuous’ perché questa è la condizione che gli appartiene. Ti consiglio questi articoli e non gli hai già letti:
