Humour inglese: Pocket Telephones

In March 1919, the ‘Daily Mirror’ newspaper published a cartoon by the English cartoonist and caricaturist, William Kerridge Haselden, predicting the invention – and some of the effects – of the ‘pocket telephone’.

It was not until 54 years later, in 1973, that the first handheld cellular mobile phone was demonstrated in public by John F. Mitchell and Martin Cooper of Motorola.

I have no doubt that you will find one or two of the images amusingly familiar!

  1. You reminded me of that day when my grandfather and I spent some days together and we were sitting on the bench by the lake.
I was asked to sync his phone so I threw it in the lake… not sure why he was upset.
