La traduzione, come metodo di esercizio nell’apprendimento di una lingua, farà sicuramente parte della vecchia scuola, però, inserita in un contesto più vario di apprendimento, soprattutto con feedback in tempo reale, può sempre essere un utile esercizio di allenamento.

The problem is not the order of the two clauses, Nadia. They are, as you thought, interchangeable!
What you need to remember is that the “ipotesi” (if) requires the past perfect and the “conseguenza” requires the past conditional.

Your first version is good, Paolo, (I would put “probably” between the two auxiliaries).
The second version needs a past perfect in the first part!

That’s a pretty good effort and the first part is perfect. However, as this is a “third conditional”, you need the “past conditional” in the second part and not the “present conditional”.
