INTRODUZIONE

[Genesis 45:25]
Jacob staggered when he heard that Jo was still alive,
And several minutes passed before he started to revive.
The news that Jo was fit and well almost made him cry,
“I want to see my son,” he said, “before the day I die.”
And so they rounded up their herds, packed their tents and goods,
And went to Beersheba, the altar in the woods.
Jacob gave a sacrifice, he kneeled down to pray,
And in the silence of the night, he heard the good Lord say:
“Don’t be scared of Egypt, I’ll follow as you ride,
I’ll make of you a nation, with Joseph by your side.”
Heartened by the words of God, and set on seeing Jo,
He woke up at the crack of dawn and gave the word to go.
When they got to Egypt, they chose a place to stay,
And Judah went to Joseph’s house to let him know the way.
As soon as Joseph heard the news, he didn’t hesitate,
He sped off in his chariot, his other jobs could wait
Everybody gathered round, their faces wet with tears,
As Jacob hugged the long lost son he hadn’t seen for years.
When everyone was calm again, Joseph quietly spoke,
He let them know that Pharaoh would want to meet his folk.
“When you speak to him,” he said, “be sure to weigh your words,
Ask for just a little land to graze your flocks and herds.
Egyptians think that minding sheep is quite a lowly task,
They’ll have no real objection to giving what you ask.
When Joseph went to Pharaoh, he only took five brothers,
He didn’t really see much point in taking all the others.
They answered Pharaoh carefully, and asked if they could stay,
They told him that the famine was getting worse each day.
Pharaoh kept his word to Jo and gave them all some land,
Later, when he met Jo’s dad, he warmly shook his hand.
