Sei in grado tu di rendere la frase di oggi in inglese?

La traduzione, come metodo di esercizio nell’apprendimento di una lingua, farà sicuramente parte della vecchia scuola, però, inserita in un contesto più vario di apprendimento, soprattutto con feedback in tempo reale, può sempre essere un utile esercizio di allenamento.

Consiglio una partecipazione attiva e visibile postando la tua versione tra i commenti in fondo a questa pagina. In questo modo riceverai un mio commento o suggerimento in tempo più o meno reale. Ma per chi non se la sente, si può semplicemente annotare la propria versione e controllarla attraverso i miei commenti lasciati per gli altri.

Ricorda l’importanza di immaginare un contesto reale nel quale la frase in questione avrebbe senso, prima di procedere con la traduzione.

Quando Bob ebbe finalmente deciso cosa avrebbe fatto riguardo al denaro mancante, lo fece sapere subito agli altri con un breve messaggio su WhatsApp.

    1. Very close and comprehensible, but there are a few things to modify:

      1. decided ➝ had decided (dà meglio lo stacco temporale tra le due azioni)
      2. of ➝ about (l’idea qui è ‘riguardo’)
      3. let it know to the others ➝ let the others know (let + infinito senza ‘to’)

    1. Very good, folks. The first part is perfect. In the second part, this is a case for “let” (consentire) and not “make” (costringere). There’s no need for “it” and “with” is definitely better than “by”.

    1. You should really have started with a past perfect here, Roby.

      Also, rather than “he would do”, I would say “he was going to do” (mi sa più di futuro intenzionale nel passato).
      However, “would do” is not wrong.

      The rest is all good. 🙂

        1. I’ve just noticed that I was the only one who wrote “with the missing money,” everyone wrote “about the missing money.” Did I spell it correctly?

          1. In effect, “with” doesn’t really work, does it? I mean if the money is missing, he can’t do anything “with” it, but he can do something “about” it, hopefully! 😉

      1. he would do ➝ he was going to do (mi sa più di futuro intenzionale nel passato)
      2. by ➝ with (as in Italian)

      You could also say: “a short WhatsApp message” but that’s just a choice.
