INTRODUZIONE
Joseph
in
jail
[Genesis 39:1]
The Ishmaelites and Joseph travelled long and far,
To Egypt, where Jo was sold to Captain Potiphar.
Potiphar was captain of Pharaoh’s palace guard,
And treated Joseph fairly, though sometimes he was hard.
He saw that Jo had heavenly help and kept him fit and nourished,
In return the Lord made sure the captain’s household flourished.
The captain put young Jo in charge of his entire estate,
All he really cared about was what was on his plate.
The management he left to Jo, who grew and grew in power,
Until an awful thing occurred that made it all turn sour.
The wife of Captain Potiphar fell in love with Jo,
Who did his best to put her off by firmly saying, “No!”
He told her he would not betray his kindly master’s trust,
Just to please her passing whims and satisfy her lust.
The captain’s wife insisted, she started playing rough,
And when the house was empty, she caught him by the cuff.
A fight broke out between them, which caused a dreadful racket,
And Jo was forced to run away and leave behind his jacket.
The captain’s wife was furious at having been refused,
She called the household servants and said she’d been abused.
She pulled out Joseph’s jacket and offered it as proof,
And no one dared consider that it might not be the truth.
When her husband got back home and heard her tragic tale,
He flew into a fit of rage and threw poor Jo in jail.
Luckily for Joseph, the Lord was also there,
And took poor Joseph’s future in his loving tender care.
He guided him unceasingly, until the warder saw
There was no longer any need to lock his prison door.
When the warder understood that God was helping Jo,
He put him in the driving seat and let him run the show.
