La traduzione, come metodo di esercizio nell’apprendimento di una lingua, farà sicuramente parte della vecchia scuola, però, inserita in un contesto più vario di apprendimento, soprattutto con feedback in tempo reale, può sempre essere un utile esercizio di allenamento.

Consiglio una partecipazione attiva e visibile postando la tua versione tra i commenti in fondo a questa pagina. In questo modo riceverai un mio commento o suggerimento in tempo più o meno reale. Ma per chi non se la sente, si può semplicemente annotare la propria versione e controllarla attraverso i miei commenti lasciati per gli altri.

Ricorda l’importanza di immaginare un contesto reale nel quale la frase in questione avrebbe senso, prima di procedere con la traduzione.

Nonostante io non creda ai fantasmi, quella vecchia casa mi mette sempre i brividi. Ogni volta che ci passo davanti, mi sembra di sentire dei sussurri.

    1. Very good, Luca. Just a couple of things I would change in the second part:

      1. near ➝ past
      2. I feel like I hear ➝ it feels as if I can hear (I seem to hear)

    1. Once again, a good effort, Fede, but there are a few adjustments to be made:

      1. Even ➝ even though (perhaps this was an oversight?)
      2. makes me shivers ➝ makes me shiver (verbo) / gives me the shivers (sostantivo)
      3. I seem I hear ➝ I seem to hear
      4. some whispers ➝ whispers (you’re not really talking about “a small quantity” but just “whispers” in general)

    1. Very good, Roby. The only thing I would do is to remove “some” at the end. You’re not really talking about “a small quantity” but just “whispers” in general. 🙂

      A good version once again. Here are two suggestions for minor improvements:

      1. despite ➝ even though (con “despite” ci vorrebbe: “Despite the fact that I don’t…)
      2. I think I hear some whispers ➝ I think I can hear whispers (“some” here is a bit intrusive)

    Despite I don’t believe in ghost stories, that old house always makes me shivers. Every time I go  through in front of it, it feels/seems as if I can hear whispering.

    1. Hi Claudio. A good version but there are a few minor problems here:

      1. despite ➝ even though (con “despite” ci vorrebbe: “Despite the fact that I don’t…)
      2. makes me shivers ➝ makes me shiver (verbo) / gives me the shivers (sostantivo)
      3. I go through in front of it ➝ I pass/walk in front of it (senza “through”)

          Your version is perfectly acceptable but I would suggest a few minor adjustments:

          1. although ➝ even though (more emphatic)
          2. gets me scared ➝ makes me scared
          3. like I can ➝ as if I can

    1. Very good, Lucia. Perhaps “even though” would be a bit more emphatic at the beginning, and at the end, if you want to use your “think” version, then I would say, “I think I can hear whispers.” 🙂

      Your version is all good until the end where you got a bit confused. The simplest form would be to use “seem” in a personal way: “I seem to hear whispers.” (“hear” (udire) not “listen” (ascoltare) 😉 )

      Here are a few slight improvements you could make:

      1. although ➝ even though (a bit more emphatic)
      2. make ➝ always makes (a classic “third person singular” oversight)
      3. some whispers ➝ whispers (in this case “some” is a bit intrusive)
