Spesso capita che ci troviamo a volere o a dovere descrivere il contenuto di un quadro, una foto, un’immagine qualsiasi. In questo caso è fondamentale sapere indicare a quale parte dell’immagine ti riferisci. L’immagine in alto illustra le espressioni più tipiche che vengono utilizzate per dare queste indicazioni e per portare avanti questo tipo di descrizione.

Vediamo dal punto di vista sintattico le tre formule più tipiche che vengono utilizzate.

In the top left-hand corner (of the picture)…
…a polar bear is eating a fish.
…there is a polar bear (that is) eating a fish.
…we can see a polar bear (that is) eating a fish.

Nell’angolo in alta a sinistra un orso polare sta mangiando un pesce.

In the bottom left-hand corner (of the picture)…
…two lions are hoping for a tasty meal.
…there are two lions (that are) hoping for a tasty meal.
…we can see two lions (that are) hoping for a tasty meal.

Nell’angolo in basso a sinistra due leoni stanno sperando in un pasto saporito.

In the foreground (of the picture)…
…a boy is frightening a girl with a toy snake.
…there is a boy (who is) frightening a girl with a toy snake.
…we can see a boy (who is) frightening a girl with a toy snake.

Nel primo piano un ragazzo sta spaventando una ragazza con un serpente giocattolo.

In the middle (of the picture)…
…a park attendant is feeding a seal.
…there is a park attendant (who is) feeding a seal.
…we can see a park attendant (who is) feeding a seal.

Al centro un assistente del parco sta dando da mangiare ad una foca.

In the background (of the picture)…
…some snakes are escaping from the reptile house.
…there are some snakes (that are) escaping from the reptile house.
…we can see some snakes (that are) escaping from the reptile house.

Nello sfondo alcuni serpenti stanno scappando dalla casa dei rettili.

On the right-hand side (of the picture)…
…some monkeys are playing on an island.
…there are some monkeys (that are) playing on an island.
…we can see some monkeys (that are) playing on an island.

Nella parte a destra alcune scimmie stanno giocando su un’isola.

N.B. Chiaramente queste espressioni sono solamente delle indicazioni orientative e alcune si sovvrappongono in parte tra di loro. La scelta dell’espressione più adatta dipenderà sempre dalla composizione dell’immagine e da quanto si vuole essere precisi con la propria descrizione.
