L’esercizio è semplice quanto diabolico: metto insieme una serie di parole inglesi, tutte parole genuine, che nel loro insieme non hanno nessun senso compiuto. Ma quando quelle stesse parole vengono lette ad alta voce con la giusta cadenza, intonazione, e interpretazione vocale, all’improvviso viene fuori una frase perfettamente sensata.
Un nuovo modo di interpretare il famoso detto dell’attrice americana Mae West: “It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.”
Per riuscirci, bisognerà basarsi sull’ortografia sì, ma bisognerà andare ben oltre, focalizzandosi sulla pronuncia di ogni singola parola, facendo scorrere l’insieme di parole, riflettendo sulle forme contratte, le elisioni, l’assimilazione, la concatenazione, gli omofoni, finché non esce, come per magia, la frase nascosta.
Ecco la prima prova:
heel no wear ewe ah
(tallone no indossare pecora ah)
Se pensi di aver capito quale potrebbe essere la frase nascosta, scrivila accuratamente nei commenti qui sotto. Non tarderò a rispondere.

heel no wear ewe ah
He will know where we are!
Nice try, Paolo, but you clearly haven’t looked up the pronunciation of “ewe”, right? You’ve just taken an educated guess.
Could an educated guy like me not take an educated guess?
I’m going to try as ineducated guy.
heel no wear ewe ah
He will know where you are!
Less education; more inspiration! 😂
“He’ll know where you are”
At first I was wrong about the correct pronounce of the word “ewe” 🙂
In fact, that is the tricky word. But if you look it up online you’ll see that the pronunciation is exactly the same as “you”!
heel no wear ewe ah
he’ll know where you are
The keystone is the correct pronunciation of “ewe” in my opinion.
Indeed, Claudio. That is probably the least common of the words in question. 😉
Too difficult? 🧐
Absolutely.. he’ll know where you are ?
Well done, Carla! 🙂
I was beginning to think I’d made a hole in the water with this new exercise idea! 😬
Not at all. It’s not a hole in the water…quite the opposite, in fact..
It took me some time to repeat it in a loud voice until I finally got it… EWE is not an easy word to pronounce …
Thanks for all your ideas ..
Thanks for your feedback, Carla. I hope some other people will have a go too! I know it’s not easy, but I think it’s an interesting exercise – and hopefully fun as well! 🙂
