Lo stress (accento) gioca un ruolo fondamentale nella lingua inglese e può essere usato per cambiare radicalmente il significato di una frase. Dove mettere lo stress in una frase dipende spesso infatti dal significato che si vuole dare a quella frase. Vediamo come la scelta di dove mettere lo stress principale in una semplice frase di sette parole può portare a sette diverse interpretazioni senza cambiare minimamente la frase originale.
La frase è:
- I didn’t say Tom stole Bob’s scooter.
- Non ho detto che Tom abbia rubato lo scooter di Bob.

Non sono stato io a dire che Tom ha rubato lo scooter di Bob,

Hi Prof, of course this is something that I guess, more or less is common to every language the problem is that to understand clearly that concept we need 7 different context in responding with that statement, and of course maybe us as Italian sometimes instead of the stress and intonation, we use our body especially our hands to give some extra meaning hahaha. There are languages that don’t use stress patterns. Japanese, for example.
